BLOODSTOCK

CSW BLOODSTOCK LTD is a computer systems design house working from its yard at 70 Westerleigh Road, Yate, Bristol - BS37 4BN, United Kingdom (GB). We build the quiet infrastructure behind a breeding operation: studbook software, pedigree analytics and sale catalogue systems that keep every record straight from covering shed to auction ring. Our engineers treat a horse register the way a stud treats its mares, with patience, order and an eye on the generations ahead.

Who we are

A systems house that speaks the language of the stud

CSW BLOODSTOCK LTD was founded to solve a narrow but stubborn problem: breeding operations run on records, yet most software built for them is either a generic farm tool with a horse skin, or a spreadsheet that three generations of managers have quietly outgrown. We sit between the two. Our engineers spend their working weeks inside registries, covering books, veterinary logs and sale catalogues, and they build software that mirrors the way a yard actually thinks about a mare line.

From our base at 70 Westerleigh Road, Yate, Bristol - BS37 4BN, United Kingdom (GB), we have delivered studbook software, pedigree reporting and catalogue production systems for operations that range from a single stallion yard to multi-site breeding groups. The work is never flashy. It is, however, the difference between a nomination that is documented and a nomination that is only remembered.

We keep a deliberately small service list because depth matters more than breadth. Every project begins with a frank audit of what a yard records, where those records live, and which of them a buyer, a regulator or a future owner will one day ask to see. From that audit we design the database, the screens and the exports, then we migrate the history and train the people who will live inside the system every day.

The register is our motif because it is our subject. A studbook is at heart a ledger of consequence: every line points back to a dam and forward to a produce record. If you keep that ledger well, everything else in the business becomes easier. If you keep it badly, no amount of marketing will repair the gaps.

The register spread

Six service lines, entered as a studbook spread

Read this the way you would read an open register: the left page carries the bulk of the entries, the right page closes with the two migration lines and a pedigree fan. Every service below links through to a fuller description on the services page.

Register · Left Page · Entries One to Four

A purpose-built studbook that records mares, stallions, coverings, foaling dates and produce lines in a structure that matches how a breeding secretary reasons. It enforces the pedigree rules at the point of entry so a register never grows a branch it cannot later explain.

Tools that read the studbook and answer commercial questions: inbreeding coefficients, line concentration, distance and surface trends across a produce record, and the sire and dam patterns that sit behind a catalogue page. The numbers are explained, never merely printed.

Production software for auction catalogues, from catalogue page assembly through index generation and lot numbering to the final print-ready output. Because the catalogue pulls directly from the studbook, the page a buyer reads and the record the office keeps stay in step.

The day to day layer of a yard: stall and paddock allocation, feeding and medication schedules, movement logs and staff rosters. It connects to the studbook so that a horse in a field is always the same horse the office believes it is.

Register · Right Page · Entries Five and Six

Long-lived, well-indexed databases that hold the commercial memory of a breeding business: sale results, buyer records, valuation history and the provenance around every animal. Designed for decades of ownership changes, not a single season.

Careful moves from paper ledgers, ageing desktop packages and ad hoc spreadsheets into a single modern register. We map, clean, reconcile and prove the data before anything is switched over, so no covering or produce record is lost in the transition.

How we work

A practice built around the life of a record

A breeding record outlives the software that created it. We design accordingly, with a bias toward clear schemas, documented exports and systems that a new stable manager can understand in a week.

First

Record audit

We walk the yard and read the actual books: covering certificates, veterinary notes, produce records, sale paperwork. The audit names what exists, what is missing and what is duplicated.

Second

Register design

From the audit we model the studbook and the surrounding databases, then agree the rules that will govern entries so the register stays clean as it grows.

Third

Build and migration

We build the software, migrate the history through our stud farm data migration line, and reconcile every record against the original before switching a yard over.

Fourth

Catalogue readiness

Sale cataloguing systems are wired to the live register, so a catalogue page is generated from the same facts the office keeps, with indexes and lot numbers produced in one pass.

Fifth

Operations link

Stable operations platforms connect the field to the office, so stall allocations, movement logs and medication schedules feed back into the pedigree record without re-keying.

Sixth

Analysis and handover

Pedigree analytics turn the register into commercial insight, and we train the team so the yard owns its data and understands every report it runs.

From the yard

Pedigree kept. Records straight. Sale ready.

These three phrases are not a slogan we invented for a website. They are the sequence a racing and breeding business moves through every year, and each one depends on the one before it. A pedigree is only kept if the covering book is accurate. Records are only straight if the office and the field agree. A sale is only as strong as the catalogue page that represents the animal.

CSW BLOODSTOCK LTD exists to hold that sequence together. Whether you need a full studbook from the ground up, a catalogue production system ahead of a major sale, or a careful migration off a ledger that has served its time, the approach is the same: understand the record, respect it, and build something that will still make sense to the next person who opens the book.

You can reach us at media@cswbloodstock.lol or by phone on +12277705575. We are happy to talk through a single stubborn record as readily as a whole estate. The register is the beginning of the conversation, and it is usually the thing that tells us where a yard truly needs help.
