SERVICES

CSW BLOODSTOCK LTD delivers six connected service lines to breeding operations from its yard at 70 Westerleigh Road, Yate, Bristol - BS37 4BN, United Kingdom (GB). They are not six separate products but six faces of one register: the studbook, the analytics, the catalogue, the operations platform, the database and the migration that carries the history across. Every line below links back to the way a yard genuinely keeps its records.

The six service lines, described

Each entry below is written as a studbook line would be written, with the substance rather than the gloss. Read left page first, then the closing entries on the right.

A

Studbook Software

Our studbook software is the foundation of everything else we build. It holds the full record of a breeding operation: mares and stallions, coverings and their outcomes, foaling dates, produce, ownership transfers and the veterinary and identification details that travel with an animal through its life. The schema is designed so that every entry has a parent, which means the software rejects a produce that cannot be traced to a covering, and a covering that cannot be traced to a named mare and stallion. This single discipline prevents the slow corruption that makes old registers unreadable. The interface is built for the people who actually keep the book, so data entry follows the rhythm of the yard: quick seasonal entry, careful correction, and a printed or exported folio whenever a buyer, a regulator or a new manager needs to see the whole line at once.

C

Pedigree Analytics

Once the register is sound, it can be asked questions. Our pedigree analytics suite computes inbreeding coefficients, line concentration and ancestral contribution across three or more generations, and it relates those figures to the produce record so a breeder can see which patterns have actually delivered on the track or in the ring. We deliberately avoid black-box scoring. Every measure we present is accompanied by the underlying pedigree it was drawn from, so a decision can be explained to a partner, an owner or a buyer. Alongside the breeding metrics we provide commercial analysis: how a sire line has performed across surfaces and distances, how a dam line has produced over time, and where the strongest pages in a catalogue are likely to sit.

D

Sale Cataloguing Systems

Catalogue production is where software meets deadline. Our sale cataloguing systems assemble pages, generate indexes and produce lot numbering directly from the live register, so a catalogue cannot drift away from the facts held by the office. They handle the repetitive work that consumes sale weeks: page ordering, cross referencing, produce record updates and the print-ready output that goes to the auction house. Because there is a single source of truth, a late correction to a covering record flows through to every affected page and index in one pass, which is the difference between a clean sale and a week of paper reconciliation.

F

Stable Operations Platforms

A stud runs on logistics as much as on pedigree. Our stable operations platforms cover stall and paddock allocation, feeding and medication schedules, movement logs and staff rosters, all linked to the same animal records that sit in the studbook. When a horse moves field, the office sees it; when a course of medication is recorded, it attaches to the animal and not to a loose diary page. This is the layer that keeps the field and the office telling the same story, and it is the layer most often missing in yards that have grown faster than their record keeping.

Bloodstock Databases

Behind every service line sits a bloodstock database built to outlast changes of ownership, software fashion and staff. We design well-indexed structures that hold sale results, buyer and vendor records, valuation history and provenance, and we document them so that a future team can query the commercial memory of the business without needing the people who first created it. The emphasis is on longevity: clear naming, rigorous constraints, honest backups and exports that remain readable in a decade. A bloodstock database is an asset in its own right, and we treat it as one, not as a by-product of some other tool.

K

Data Migration for Stud Farms

Most yards do not start clean. They hold decades of cover books, ageing desktop packages and spreadsheets that only one person fully understands. Our data migration service moves that history into a single modern register without losing the record. We map old fields to new, clean and reconcile entries against their sources, flag the genuine ambiguities for a human decision, and prove the migrated data before any switchover. Migration is the service that makes every other line usable on day one rather than in some imagined fresh start.

Process

How a project moves from book to system

We work in a fixed sequence because breeding records reward sequence. Each stage produces something the yard can inspect before the next stage begins.

Stage One

Discovery visit

An on site read of the books, the screens and the spreadsheets, producing a written inventory of every record type a yard holds and where each one currently lives.

Stage Two

Data model

A proposed register schema, reviewed with the breeding secretary and the yard manager so the structure matches real working practice rather than an abstract ideal.

Stage Three

Build and wire

Studbook, analytics, catalogue and operations modules are built and connected, with the database designed so each module reads from one authoritative record.

Stage Four

Migration and proof

Historical records are migrated and reconciled line by line, with a written reconciliation report that names every ambiguous entry and its resolution.

Stage Five

Training

Staff are trained on the real register with real records, so the habits that keep the data sound are learned at the desk rather than from a manual.

Stage Six

Support and review

We remain available through a full breeding cycle and return for a structured review, because the true test of a register is a season of use.

Next step

Tell us what your register is missing

The most useful first conversation is a specific one. Bring a single problem: a covering book that no longer balances, a catalogue deadline that keeps slipping, a set of spreadsheets that only one person can read. From that small problem we can show you how the full register would work, and how the six service lines above would fit around it.
